Monster Hunter

A Monster Hunter is a human who has taken up the mission of fighting and defeating any supernatural creature that can pose a threat to society. The more prestigious hunters are members of the Guardian Guild, undergoing intense training from a young age to better defeat their enemies. They utilize an armory of weapons to hunter, kill, or capture monsters, while also using stealth tactics to overpower their opponents.

Throughout Series

In "First Kiss", the Burns family of hunters are deployed to Savannah, GA, by the Guardian Guild on assignment to find out why monsters are suddenly back in town. Their youngest child Calliope has yet to make her honorary first kill, which will begin the coveted arrow markings that indicate each kill. Cal, alongside her brothers Theo and Apollo, go to the local cemetery to hunt Ghouls that have been spotted there. Cal serves as the lookout while Theo and Apollo expertly destroy the monsters. Cal sees a third Ghoul and leaps into action, wanting to help, only to be overpowered as the monster is really a vampire. Her brothers save her life, remarking on the oddity of a vampire being in the same region as a ghoul.

Later, at Lancaster Academy, Cal identifies a vampire in her classroom and uses her silver bracelet to confirm her suspicion. While at a party, Cal gets Juliette alone in a closet where they make out. Juliette loses control and bites Cal, who reacts by staking Juliette through the heart. She flees, leaving behind both the body and the stake, rushing home to tell her mother the great news of her first kill. Her family aren't pleased as earlier that evening, a Shambler materialzed in the Burns home, courtesy of a Summoner that Apollo stole from the cemetery. The Shambler had been decapitated in the living room by Talia.

Guardian Guild

The Guardian Guild is an elite group of monster hunters who work together under the supervision and guidance of a larger committee. Most hunters are guild sanctioned, though it is not a requirement for all hunters to be sanctioned. Talia and Jack are Guild members, though their entire family partakes in Guild sanctioned hunts, receives protection, and has access to the Guild armory. There is an academy for Guild members that hunters can start around the age of 24. The status of a hunter determines the types of monsters that they can fight, and where they are relocated.

The Arrow Tattoo

When a hunter makes their first kill they receive a tattoo on their left arm, an arrow with a word and a marker to indicate their kill. For each kill after that, they add a mark onto the arrow. For every ten kills a new arrow is received. The tattooed word above the arrow says "Bellator", which means, "soldier, warrior, fighter" in Latin. Clayton has five arrows on his arm, though they lack markers.

Weapons

The hunters use a mix of items such as silver, old-fashioned spears/axes, combined with modern weapons. They also use more tech items such as night-vision goggles. They change their tactics and weapon of choice depending on what they are hunting.

Stakes

Calliope has a one-handed wooden stake with military green handle to stake Juliette in First Kiss. When showing her mother how she did it, she uses a similar wooden stake.

Theo uses a long silver-stake that can be detached into two smaller stakes that can be detached into a nunchuck with a chain between the handle and the sharpened points. Theo and Apollo use this weapon to fight Elinor in First Goodbye.

Spears

While hunting the Legacy vampires, the Guild loaned the Burns and Franklin families a collection of ancient, silver-tipped spears. The spears were once one large spear until the Guild broke it into parts. The spear is allegedly the only weapon to have ever killed a Legacy. However, the spears failed as the Legacies were temporarily incapcitated from them. During a fight between the Burns and Fairmont parents, Jack impaled Sebastian with a blow that would have proven fatal, as silver is deadly to made vampires.
