Calliope and Juliette is the complicated relationship between the monster hunter Calliope Burns and the Legacy vampire Juliette Fairmont.
Overview[]
Calliope and Juliette were never meant to fall in love. They came from opposite backgrounds, both taught to hate and fear the other, though their undeniable draw to one another eventually overcame their beliefs. Their connection was solidified after Juliette bit Calliope, unknowingly connecting them psychically. They became locked in a battle between their families, the town, and a war that predated them.
Throughout Series[]
From the moment Juliette saw Cal, she was enamored. She wanted to know her, had a crush on her, and asked her out. She stopped Cal from walking away as a bee was on her shoulder. She gently scooped up the bee and told Cal to make a wish; Cal believed it only counted with eyelashes. Juliette released the creature and they parted ways for now. When Cal first saw Juliette, she couldn't keep her eyes off her. She watched her so closely that she realized Juliette was the kind of monster her family warned her about; the kind that looked human but wasn't. She planned to kill Juliette and finally complete her first kill. She had everything planned and and made sure Juliette saw her too. At Noah Harrington's party, Ben rigged a game of spin the bottle, the girls ventured into a pantry. Juliette just wanted to kiss Cal, and knew she had a stake on her. Calliope didn't anticipate Juliette kissing her, or that she would kiss back. Their make out was intense and they broke cherry jars. Juliette lost control of her vampirism and bit Cal, who staked her in return.[1]
Cal fled the party when Juliette collapsed. The latter laid unconscious on the ground for several minutes until she woke up, pulled the stake out of her chest, and snuck out of the party through the back door. While neither Juliette or Cal died at the party, someone did - a girl named Ashley Stanton suffered a head wound before her liver was removed. Juliette, Margot, and Sebastian attend the vigil, and so does Calliope and Talia. She lied to Talia that she didn't see the vamp she staked. Juliette got emotional during the vigil and left as she cried tears of blood.
Cal followed her inside as she just wanted to talk, but Juliette asked if it would be like in the closet. They both reacted out of instinct that night. Juliette wanted to be left alone but Cal followed Juliette anyway, which led to a chase onto the roof. They argue as Cal demanded to know why she bit her. Juliette admitted she wasn't herself but Cal believed that was the real her - a monster, and the reason her family was sent to Savannah. Cal asked why her tears were red, unaware that Juliette hadn't completed her first kill either. Juliette's fangs popped out from stress and they fought. Juliette was born a great fighter while Cal trained. Cal punched her in the face and blood covered her knuckles. She collapsed to the ground unable to feel her hand. Juliette explained her blood paralyzed but that it would wear off soon.
The next day, the girls got in trouble for going to the roof and their mothers were called down to the school. The girls both told the same lie as started by Juliette; that she was upset and went somewhere quiet to calm down, and Cal comforted her. Talia immediately suspected that Juliette was the vampire Cal staked. She texted to ask her, with Cal's silence being confirmation enough. The principal let the girls go with a warning.
Once outside, Cal criticized Juliette for being a shitty liar, as she thought monsters were supposed to be good at deceiving humans. Juliette surmised she wasn't very good being a monster, then. As they talked, Cal admitted that Juliette was the first one to welcome her. She smiled at her and made her feel a certain way, but that was all before. She found her tells because she couldn't keep her eyes of her. Juliette knew Cal planned to kill her at the party, but just wanted to kiss her in the pantry. She didn't mean to bite her. Cal claimed she still would have staked Juliette if she hadn't bitten her, but Juliette merely smiled until Cal inquired. Juliette could hear her heartbeat - it raced when she lied.[2]
